Putting the Muscle back into Classic Cars

FrankenCharger gets the rust removed

December 10, 2025

When FrankenCharger, the VH Valiant Charger, was rescued from the Chicken Coupe it was not obvious how bad or how many repairs and rust that this Aussie Muscle car was hiding under the paint and filler.

We began stripping the paint off the car by hand and it soon revealed allot of rust scattered in the usual spots around the vehicle but also allot of bad repairs from its previous life.  There were allot of sections where panels from other vehicles were badly welded to this car with exceptionally large “scar like” welds.  Therefore the name FrankenCharger was coined.

Definitely too many repairs were required to list them all but all of the filler was systematically removed and the damaged areas cut out, repaired then panel beat so that the vehicle was completely metal finished before it headed off to paint.

All replacement sections were either hand made from galvanised steel or zinc coated before being fitted and any exposed steel was treated with rust inhibitor before being painted.  This way guaranteeing that this Charger will not have to go through the same processes again in the future.
