Repairing the Rust in the Graveyard Cuda

April 27, 2024

After recovering from the shock of finding the extensive rust in the Graveyard Cuda it was decided that the entire rear of the car would be removed and we would replace them with new panels.  It was up to Irmi, aka Clyde from Every Which Way but Loose, to strip the car.  Both Quarters were removed, the boot floor, the rear valance and the section between the rear valance and the rear window.  Hemi Performance came to the rescue with all of our replacement panels as well as new rubbers, plugs, clips and all the little parts required when doing a complete rebuild.

The rust that could not be replaced with new panels was removed and new sections were made by Shane.  While the panels were off all exposed structural areas of the car were treated in an anti-rust solution making the Cuda more protected from rust than it originally was from the factory.  All replacement panels were spot-welded back into place so that they remained looking original, then seam-sealed and painted in Satin Black.  To accommodate the extra height in the motor Shane massaged a custom Bulge in the bonnet to allow for extra clearance, have a look at what was involved in Episode 4, Season 3 of Rides Down Under Workshop Wars, on 7Plus, https://7plus.com.au/rides-down-under-workshop-wars?episode-id=RIDU03-004

The rear flash and front grill were painted in a heavy flake black to tie in with the motor and give a little bit of bling in an otherwise evil looking car.  Once the paint has cured its signature Graveyard Hockey stripes will be placed back on.  Check out the Graveyard Cuda going back together in Episode 5 and 7 of Season 3 Rides Down Under Workshop Wars on 7 Plus, https://7plus.com.au/rides-down-under-workshop-wars?episode-id=RIDU03-005
