Putting the Muscle back into Classic Cars

Modifying and repairing the chassis of the Chev Apache

October 16, 2024

Once we saw the extent of the bad workmanship on the chassis of the Chevrolet Apache truck we got stuck into stripping the running gear, cab and tray off the chassis so that we could make the graft of the Camaro independent front and Jag independent rear safe and drivable

No Oxy acetylene cutting and welding used here, but there was allot of custom made strengthening fish plates made to brace the joins, thereby strengthening the chassis but still allowing enough movement. Along with these sections the length of the chassis was strengthened by boxing it. All of this was structurally welded using both stitch welds and further reinforced with plug welds.

The chassis was then taken to powder coating where it was given a bright red coat of paint so that it could be offset against the trucks black colour
