Putting the Muscle back into Classic Cars

Dirty Dozen Charger Window Fitment

December 10, 2025

The Dirty Dozen VH Valiant Charger came to us in what I like to term as an Adult Jigsaw Puzzle.  That is the painted shell of a vehicle and boxes of miscellaneous parts.

Some of these parts naturally were the windows that needed to be fitted.  This is usually a fairly straight forward process, however, this Valiant Muscle Car threw us a few curve balls.

One of the first issues found was in the mechanism alignment and fitment into the doors.  The issue came about as one of the door skins was aligned differently, which left the outside of the vehicle looking correct however made reaching and fitting the inside mechanism nearly impossible.  A little bit of reengineering and persistence meant that we were able to get this glass in and aligned eventually.

The second issue came when the new rear window wouldn’t fit at all.  Heads were scratched and measurements were taken, this proved that the glass dimensions were correct.  So heads were scratched a little more and then the hole in the vehicle was measured.  This showed a 10mm difference from Left to Right of the vehicle, an error made by the shop which had previously replaced a quarter and the filler panel.

As the vehicle was already painted it was decided to make a glass template and get a custom made rear screen manufactured.

Sometimes a curve ball will turn the simplest tasks in a build into some of the hardest parts of a build.  That was certainly the case with this Aussie Muscle car.
