Dirty Dozen Charger Modern Power Steering

December 10, 2025

Initially the Dirty Dozen Valiant Charger was destined to have a Rack and Pinion upgrade and the previous builder had replaced the Right Hand Chassis Rail with this intention in mind.  However, after allot of years of research and development between Valigrunt Performance and Pro Steer Down Under, a new smaller modern Power Steering box was developed for the early and late model Australian Chryslers.

This development led to the client opting to change his build direction and go down the path of fitting one of these newly developed boxes.  This way giving the client the benefit of both a modern feel steering in an old school classic.

The original mounting plates and holes were redrilled and welded onto the chassis rail again and the box fitted so that it looks, for all intents and purposes, like the original manual steering box is still in place.

It was decided to wire in an electric Power Steering pump, but as we were aiming for a very clean and minimalistic engine bay this was hidden in the RH inner guard.

The resulting drive is a firm feeling steer high speeds with a box that increases in pressure  as you turn the wheel allowing for a smooth and easy turn when needed during parking.  The box offers a 16:1 steering ratio along with a pressure variant ranging from 50 - 150psi and with full lock spikes up to 1000psi.

Couple this with a completely rebuilt front and rear suspension leaving a pleasant responsive drive experience without the bump steer that is all too common place with aftermarket rack and pinion steering.
