When Shane originally purchased the Cuda it had a blotchy red paint job, a weekend before a car show many years ago it was decided that we would tape up the car, scuff back the red and give her a coat of Satin Black. We thought it was a solid car without much rust and had no idea what was hiding underneath the original paint. We were badly mistaken. After starting to manually strip down the car for Season 3 of Rides Down Under Workshop Wars we quickly realised that there was more filler in the car than paint and the Cuda had had more hits than the Beatles.
It looked like the rear quarter had been subject to a hit fairly high up that was hard enough to pop the spot welds from the rear seat cross-bracing and bend the brace. Yet it didn’t stop there, the front guards had allot of dents and old fashioned repairs along them too. The devastation felt by allot of clients during this stage of a build was now keenly felt by Shane when he ran the wire wheel up the quarters in strips to see how deep the filler was. We may have bitten off more than we can chew in the timeframe of the show but there was no turning back now.
