With the stroked and supercharged 316 Pontiac Motor making allot of torque the running gear had to be altered so that Warsquaw could get the power from the motor to the ground at the rear without destroying transmissions, twisting the tailshaft and overheating on the final episode of Rides Down Under, Workshop Wars (catch up tv on 7Plus).
We married the motor up with a Tremec TKO 5 Speed built by Mal Wood Automotive, complete with custom made flywheel, bell-housing and hydraulic clutch. The 5 Speed married up with the 5.37:1 diff gears allows us to get the power to the ground while still cruising at a comfortable 2700rpm at 100km/h. Best of both worlds. Shane made a custom adaptor plate to marry the modern box up to the early Pontiac block.
Between the box and differential we ran a custom made 3 inch chrome moly tailshaft by GJ Drivelines with 13/50 billet yokes either end. To keep all of this cool we fitted a custom 2 core Aluminium Radiator, that for all intents and purposes would look like a stock Pontiac radiator if painted black, all hand crafted by Race Radiators. To supply the spark we fitted an MSD programmable ignition and finished it off with two slicks supplied by Speedpro.
Friday night and WarSquaw comes alive, race day only 3 sleeps away.
