Valiant Wagon gets new 318 motor

November 20, 2024

The wagon was owned by an old farmer who had used it to tow a caravan and boat around Australia a few times, and as you can imagine it had only received tractor like maintenance and was extremely tired. As this is the Valigrunt work horse, used to tow classics and shift around motors and parts it was decided a freshen up was desperately needed. So out with the old and in with the new. We fitted a NOS crank shaft, new Nascar bearings, Rollmaster Timing Chain, new standard sized pistons and rings and a high lift cam to the 318. The heads have been port matched and rebuilt with new springs, seals and retainers. This was topped with a port matched 4 barrel intake manifold topped with a 750cfm quadrajet carburettor. Combine this with the new motor and box and we have ourselves a very reliable tow car that has no issues sitting on the speed-limit and overtaking those trucks on the open road while towing heavy classic cars.
